One of the greatest (though not with the most virtuoso acting) was done at the actual cottage in Connecticut with a few chairs for the audience in the room where the play takes place. We arrived just after the breakfast hour for Act One and departed just after midnight after Act Four. It was extraordinary to be there and see the light through the windows exactly as the play describes it. and to spend the entire day (we were on our own between acts) digesting the events of the play at leisure. Overpowering in its way. Also the fact that the cottage itself is modestly small, and low-ceilinged, made the sound of Mary's traipsing around upstairs absolutely haunting. Quite the experience.
