| I watched Purlie Victorious late last night and then began reading the comments on this board. Your thoughts were exactly what I planned to say, right down to the "fingernails scratching a chalkboard" observation. When Lutiebelle started talking, I wondered what was wrong with her voice and thought something would be explained by her or another character as to how it got that way. Kara Young obviously had been directed to play the part the way she did, but why? It was painful to listen to her. Cap'n Cotchipee was way over the top, screaming all of his speeches. Other performances were fine, but memories of Purlie and what a joy that was made me very surprised that this version received such great reviews. |
