| I don't recall that the book to "Urinetown" was terrible; actually I found lots of the scripted things with Little Sally, wonderfully played by Spencer Kayden, quite funny as it many times was a deconstruction of what the elements are of putting together a musical. Having someone with as remarkable ineptness at singing (check the internet for examples) as William Shatner as a replacement in contrast to the remarkably beautiful-voiced John Cullum would have been depriving people of one of the show's major assets though. I guess Shatner's fame as an tv star and infamy as a really bad vocalist might have had some box-office and "rubber-necking" kind of fascination though. |
