I don't think there is a consensus this year about any of the new Broadway musicals. Some ATC-ers, who are tougher on shows than others (including me), feel that all the new ones this year are either bad, mediocre, or overpraised. For the record, I enjoyed both Harmony and Days of Wine and Roses (especially their scores) and I also was quite impressed with Here Lies Love when I saw it at the Public in 2014.

My favorite new musical of this season is Dead Outlaw, but I also liked Back to the Future, The Notebook, SUFFS, and Hell's Kitchen. My favorite new play of the official season is Prayer for the French Republic, which I actually saw off-Broadway in 2022, but I also had great admiration and/or enjoyment for "Oh, Mary!", The Ally, Patriots, and Stereophonic. My favorite musical revival is Merrilly We Roll Along, but I also found things to like in Gutenberg! and Tommy. The best play revival I saw was Philadelphia, Here I Come, followed closely by Appropriate.

If they are still playing on June 16, I plan on seeing Water for Elephants, The Great Gatsby, Illinoise, Lempicka, The Heart of Rock and Roll, and perhaps a few others. I hope I'm not leaving anything out.
