| I imagine a practical reason why ''Sweeney Todd' didn't do ''A Little Priest'' on the 1979 Tonys is that this number is about 7 minutes long. You'd need to really cut it down for the time slot. (Compared to ''Worst Pies,'' which is only about 3 minutes long.) ''A Little Priest'' is also a comic number with pun-filled jokes, and you might not want to give away the punchlines. By the time of the 1979 Tonys, ''Sweeney Todd'' would've only played for a few months at the then-Uris Theatre, and it was a new musical, so I wouldn't have assumed ''everyone,'' & especially home viewers, would've known what the basic plot was. |
