I've watched all three episodes. And as I posted below when you must have been typing, I agree about Van Sant's direction helping to elevate it. But it is about (mostly) detestable people, and that does seem to be the point, even if most of them have moments when you can sympathize or empathize with them. It does seem devoted to decimating the American obsession with celebrity and class, even though supposedly America is not as classist a society as England. But still pretty classist.
