This revival of Merrily We Roll Along is not the same show that appeared on Broadway in 1981. Songs from the original have been dropped, new songs added. There is a considerable amount of new work never before seen and heard on a Broadway stage in this current production. Tunick's nomination reflects that and is certainly deserving of recognition. | |

I've seen a half-dozen revivals of ''Merrily'' over the years, so I'm well aware of how the show and its score have changed. My original query was: ''Did Tunick write new orchestrations for the current revival or are these orchestrations that were not previously Tony-eligible?'' According to Playbill.com, this 2024 nomination is primarily based on Tunick's work in 1994 and these orchestrations weren't previously Tony-eligible. |
