Talkin' Broadway V.J.

Hello, Dolly! at BCBC Oct. 17th

Hello, Dolly!, a Mainstage L.L.C. production, will be performed at BCBC (Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College) on Sunday, October 17, 1999 at 2 PM. Hello, Dolly! is part of Emigrant Savings Bank's Swingin' Sundays series at BCBC.

Based on the play The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder, Hello, Dolly! is the most honored Broadway musical of all time - a winner of 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical. Hello, Dolly! is also one of Broadway's longest running musicals, running from 1964 until 1970. With its book written by Michael Stewart and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, Hello, Dolly! is filled with such delightful and memorable melodies such as "Put on Your Sunday Clothes," "Before the Parade Passes By," and the title hit, "Hello, Dolly!"

Hello, Dolly! tells the story of a busybody widow, Dolly Levi, who makes a living as a meddling matchmaker in the horse and buggy era of New York City. She sets out to arrange a marriage between Irene Molloy, a lovely widowed New York milliner, and Horace Vandergelder, a rich curmudgeon of a Yorkers merchant. Dolly leaves a whirlwind of merry mix-ups in her wake as midway through her attempts to play cupid she decides to grab this "Yonkers half-a-millionaire" for herself.

Tickets for Hello, Dolly! are $25, $30 & $35. All BCBC perfromances are at the Walt Whitman Theater located on the campus of Brooklyn College (one block from the junction of Flatbush and Notstrand Avenues). Tidbits: And speaking of Hello, Dolly!...Randy Slovacek is a gypsy or a dancer/actor/singer in layman's terms. He's been on Broadway in Hello, Dolly! and Chicago, Off-Broadway in Choices, Pageant, and Between Time and Timbuktu and in National tours of Cats, A Chorus Line, 42nd Street and Chicago. It was when I first saw him on Broadway in the latest revival of Hello, Dolly!, (1996) starring Carol Channing and directed by Lee Roy Reams that I noticed this high voltage dancer.

On a recent visit to Chicago at the Mandalay Bay Theatre in Las Vegas there was a slip of paper in the program announcing that an understudy would go on in the role of Martin Harrison and the doctor, as well as being a member of the hot chorus of dancers. The name...Randy Slovacek.

Coming soon! A new Spotlight On interview with this talented performer.
