Arizona Broadway Theatre's production of Hello, Dolly! is a glorious and joyful celebration of classic musical theatre, bursting with energy, charm, and wit. The outstanding cast, vibrant direction and choreography, and colorful creative elements combine to create a thoroughly entertaining show that is as heartwarming as it is delightful.

Set in 1890s New York, Hello, Dolly! follows the irrepressible Dolly Gallagher Levi, a matchmaker and schemer who sets her sights on marrying the wealthy but curmudgeonly Horace Vandergelder. Along the way, Dolly also has her hand in orchestrating romantic entanglements for Horace's employees, Cornelius and Barnaby, as well as milliner Irene Molloy and her assistant Minnie Fay. With a score by Jerry Herman that includes many beloved songs, plus a comical yet poignant book by Michael Stewart that features several humorous twists and heartfelt moments, the story unfolds as a joyous celebration of love, adventure, and second chances.

The ABT cast is phenomenal, led by a powerhouse performance from Cassandra Norville Klaphake as Dolly. Norville Klaphake exudes charisma, cunning, and warmth, delivering Dolly's witty quips and heartfelt moments with effortless charm. Her rendition of "Before the Parade Passes By" is both poignant and inspiring, while her delivery of the title number is a showstopper. There have been many Broadway and Hollywood stars who have played Dolly since the show premiered in 1964, but Norville Klaphake manages to make the part entirely her own with the perfect blend of humor and heart. As Horace Vandergelder, James Rio strikes the perfect balance between gruffness and vulnerability, making his transformation both believable and endearing. If you find yourself teary eyed at the end, chalk it up to the solid performances from Norville Klaphake and Rio.

As Cornelius, the young romantic clerk who works in Vandergelder's shop, Collin O'Neill delivers a standout performance, combining boyish enthusiasm with impeccable comedic timing and a gorgeous singing voice. Irene Molloy is portrayed with grace and wit by Jill Tieskoetter, her elegance matched by a radiant and earthy voice that shines in her songs, including a beautiful version of "Ribbons Down My Back." As Barnaby and Minnie, the show's comedic duo, Dash Deusterman and Elyssa Blonder add plenty of charm and laughs, with their delightful energy and sharp comic timing enhancing every scene they're in. Danny Feldman and Cara Rizzi Richman shine in supporting roles, and the tight-knit ensemble is equally impressive, bringing the vibrant world of Yonkers and New York City to life with their precise dancing and exuberant vocals.

Danny Gorman's direction is crisp and focused, ensuring the comedic and emotional beats land perfectly. Kurtis Overby's choreography is playful and inventive, with big production numbers like "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" and "Dancing" bursting with energy. The creative elements are wonderful. While the costumes are rentals, Dolly's outfits were designed by Morgan Andersen and they are gorgeous. Cody Tellis Rutledge's detailed sets evoke the vibrant and romanticized 1890s. Mark Foreman's music direction derives clear vocals from the entire cast; I only wish the seven-piece band were a little larger to give this tuneful score the full sound it deserves.

ABT's production of Hello, Dolly! is one of their best. With its exceptional cast, lively direction, and stunning visuals, it delivers a joyful and heartwarming experience that will remind audiences why this classic musical comedy has endured for generations.
