We've talked about this book before. Coincidentally, I borrowed it yesterday on Internet Archive because I wanted to check something in it. I took what you wrote earlier to mean that performances were canceled when Lawrence was out. I guess that's not what you meant. It certainly isn't said in the book and it didn't happen. Laufe wrote that the show "might have survived" if Lawrence had not missed so many performances, but I do not see him saying that the show might have doubled its run (which would not have happened).
Anyway, yes, some shows have closed because of a star's illness, although in at least some of the few cases that come to mind (I'm sure there have been others I don't know about), the show was not actually doing all that well before the star got sick. |
