Agreed. I think she should be applauded for prioritizing her family for a couple of days over her job or some notion of "the show must go on." (Thought, of course, the show DID go on...just with another actress playing Rose.) Her husband and her children likely need her right now as they are beginning the grieving process and that is way more important than showing up for work. My job allows me time off for such things and I'm glad both that hers does as well and that she is comfortable enough with her position to actually take the time that she needs. Perhaps the poster meant that this winter has been a brutal cold/flu season in NYC and that he/she expects that someone playing such a demanding role 8 times a week might be more likely to get run down and be more susceptible to illness. We've already seen this particular show shut down for several days during the preview period due to cast illness, but speculation at the time was that the standby had not yet had enough rehearsal to go on or was possibly ill herself. It's not inconceivable that such a thing could happen again, although, of course, now the standby is ready and able to go on if MacDonald falls ill. |
