Thank you for posting this, aleck, and for your diligent research. I have started to find the strategizing necessary for getting decent seats at reasonable prices so off-putting, there are shows that I might have seen but decided not to because I could not bother with all this nonsense. For shows I really want to see, I buy in advance the best seats available at the price I can afford. For example, I bought both Gypsy and Sunset in advance — very decent seats in the front mezz for $159 each — but that’s as much as I’m willing to pay. I may have been able to get better seats at lower prices if I were willing to jump through all these ticket-purchase hoops producers put up, but I have other things to do. The net effect is I spend more money on fewer shows, which may enrich the coffers of those producing the shows I attend, but hurts the producers of the shows I might have had an interest in, but skip because of ticket pricing strategies. | |
