Pivot:
Reading about this production of "Guys & Dolls" (which I missed) instantly catapults me back to another instance of a seemingly "foolproof" show crashing and burning: the spectacularly unwatchable 2006 revival of "Barefoot in the Park." Patrick Wilson and Amanda Peet — both actors I usually adore — somehow managed to be catastrophically miscast, delivering performances so painfully off-key it was like watching a masterclass in how not to land a comedy. The production itself? A misguided mess, completely devoid of charm, wit or even a flicker of fun.
But back to "Guys & Dolls" — let's keep the memories rolling! |
