His second album was all Sammy Cahn songs. I met him at an ASCAP fundraiser after the 1999 SWEENEY TODD with Kelsey Grammer; he played Anthony. I told him how much I liked his first album and he excitedly told me about the Cahn one. I’ve seen him in concert twice—once on his own and once with John Raitt (!). The highlights from that one included “Soon It’s Gonna Rain” and “If I Loved You.” Raitt said something like, “I usually sing this with a pretty girl, but whatever!” They were fantastic together.
