I agree with Jere and Chromie entirely. Muñoz is using those stereotypes. Trust this SoCal gal, no Spanish speaker would ever say, “Time to fiesta!” (Fiesta is a noun.)I think he’s mocking the stereotypes. What’s weird about Muñoz’s song is that it comes out of nowhere; he’s had just a few scenes and no songs, now he gets a solo. Yet it’s critical for the plot. It gives us a confident, tough Muñoz, one who’s easily Stone’s equal, but who has to endure daily racism and lack of advancement. His song reflects that fury. Then, in the scene before “Nothing,” Stine rewrites this bitter angry Muñoz to Buddy’s orders (what’s the line, something about getting rid of the “white skin, brown skin” stuff) into a sappy sod suffering unrequited love for Bobbie.
