Following my experience a week ago when trying to buy tickets in advance to Maybe Happy Ending and not being able to get any four seats together (or in a two/two combination) anywhere in the orchestra section or mezzanine but then seeing it on TKTS the entire day on the day of performance, I just looked at tickets for the Feb 11 performance. On Telecharge, which is the official ticket source linked from the show's web site, I found exactly 23 seats available in the orchestra section. Eleven of those seats were singletons. Meaning that there were only 12 left that could accommodate people sitting together. But a look at the seats available on SeatGeek I find slews of available seats with plenty of adjacent seats. Many of those seats on SeatGeek are in areas of the orchestra section that I would associate with the type of house seats that are held back for people associated with the show that are kept back right up until rather close to curtain time (but with differing deadlines based on contractual definitions). Are some of these people placing their house seats with SeatGeek until time to officially claim them? Otherwise, where does SeatGeek get so many tickets? And if they are not sold, what can they use to unload them? TKTS? Back to the Belasco box office? I find it hard to believe that SeatGeek is going to sell each and every one of those seats -- no matter what their original source was. Or is this just all another dynamic of "gaming" the Braodwway ticket landscape for people willing to pay full price in advance and not having the ability to decide at the last minute to use TKTS? I've never really looked at the retail ticket-buying process, but these two dyanmics -- one to see on the official TeleCharge offerings and one on the supposedly secondary market SeatGeek -- makes for a discontent. This is going to be especially interesting if I see tons of tickets on TKTS on Feb 11. I've written down the ticket locations available on SeatGeek and those available on Telecharge. I'll have to see if any of those seats -- or others not available on either site -- are available on TKTS next Tuesday. |
