I had the pleasure of seeing McCrimmon as Fanny Brice in the FUNNY GIRL national tour. She was sensational. Was excited to see what else she was capable of, and tonight at Joe's Pub she blew the roof off the joint. McCrimmon's set included everything from Bjork to Chet Baker to Brandi Carlile and Celia Cruz. And there were a few show tunes, too. Was interesting to see how she brought this far-ranging set together as a cohesive, powerful whole. She's got a big voice, and can deliver smooth jazz vocals as well as big torch songs. Audience loved her, and she talked a bit about her upcoming jazz album. Highlights tonight included Tony-winner Lauren Patten joining her onstage for a number; McCrimmon did a pretty wonderful cover of ALFIE....and her "To Build a Home" from BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY was shattering. |
