| Interesting take. I watched OLIVER! this weekend as well - and confess I was appalled by the orchestration and arrangements. The show sounded the way it did because it was referencing the English Music Hall tradition. It was very effective in the theatre, and for me would have been more effective in the film - because the songs are bouncy music hall songs, with a few music hall torch songs. |
