While Fred Astaire starred on Broadway with his sister Adele in "The Band Wagon", it was a revue made up of songs and sketches, with no plot, unlike the movie musical. Three of its songs were retained for the movie version.
Cyd Charisse was one of the few partners, besides Ginger Rogers, that Astaire danced with in more than one of his films. The others I believe were Vera-Ellen, Rita Hayworth and Lucille Bremer. I guess we could include Gene Kelly if their movement in the number in "That's Entertainment, Part 2" is included. Plus he danced with Barrie Chase in a number of tv specials. |
