Some of my thoughts on why it's not talked about much here (all my opinion):

* it's not a revival of a classic

* there's nothing controversial about it (in particular, nothing that you can know/discuss without seeing it, like Tammy Faye), which gets the most attention here. The subthread about whether or not Jeremy Jordan is a TV star has gotten more discussion than anything else in the musical

* most people here no longer (or never did) see everything, and again, not much about it to discuss if you haven't seen it

* of the people here who still see a lot, but not everything, this show/cast doesn't appeal (at least one person here falls into that category) - especially at the elevated prices of today. Even before it opened, the anticipation was at about the "meh" level. Even though other people (I'm guessing a lot of young people) are buying tickets. We are a small, older group.

* there have been so many adaptations of the novel, how they adapted may not be of as much interest

Maybe after a second cup of coffee, I'll have more - and also some examples of this happening before here.
