Much as I will miss the book songs - a lot, I do tend to feel that keeping the singing just for the fantasy movie sequences does make a lot of sense. I suspect that had ATC been around in 1972 we would have been airing a lot of angst over all the songs cut in the film of Cabaret. And now we look at that film and admire what it did. At least we're not talking about lightning-speed turtles or Lucille Ball as Aurora.
But in terms of Spider Woman - the novel is different from the play which is different from the non-musical film which is different from the musical, so in some ways, we're right on track. :-)
I do wish the original production, with Chita, had been commercially filmed. Then we would have had that in addition to whatever this film will give us. |
