It's not just a question of Yang's professionalism. To me, it's about the appearance of impartiality.

In all of Hollywood, they couldn't find a performer to do the honors who wasn't in one of the top Oscar-contending pictures?

I also never understand why they can't find a past Oscar nominee/winner to make the announcement.

By contrast, last year's Tony nominations were announced by two past Tony winners: Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Renee Elise Goldsberry.
