William Daniels deserved to be up for Leading Actor in ''1776.'' He clearly wasn't Featured; had he not spoken up, he would've won that Featured Tony.
But maybe some other Tony expert can explain that season to me: Jerry Orbach was billed BELOW the title for ''Promises, Promises.''
So why wasn't Orbach nominated in Featured, too? Instead, he was allowed to compete in Leading Actor and WON that Tony.
(Speaking of ''1776,'' judging only by the movie, I wonder why Howard Da Silva didn't get a Tony nomination for playing Ben Franklin.) |
