Saw this on Sunday. I really couldn’t believe what a poor singer Julie is in this production. And her overly-emotive choices during “Bill” were so uncomfortable to me that I had to look away for the 2nd half of the song. It was so odd to me that the director and music director made the choice to have this actor formada-the-hell out of this song and rage-sing the last 3rd of it - especially since it was entirely outside of her vocal abilities.
Does anyone know how this non-singing actor got this part? Julie isn’t a character where folx can make the (controversial) Sally Bowles argument that she doesn’t actually have to sing well. She’s supposed to be the best performer on the riverboat! |
