A very small percentage of the regulars at West Bank ever made it downstairs. The clubby theatre people go there to be among their own kind -- because they are known or wish to be known or like to be hidden from view in that section behind the bar in the back. It is a place to see and to be seen. And to be treated with knowing preference.

And if saving that theatre downstairs was the real motivation for pumping money into West Bank, all the more reason to come to the rescue of Signature.

I would say also, however, that both West Bank and Signature suffered from some management missteps. But, again, why save West Bank (or the theatre downstairs) and not Signature?
