First, yes, Audra is phenomenal as Rose. She played the character as I've never seen before--fierce mother, consumingly protective of her kids;somewhat narcissistic but never mentally imbalanced. Never have I burst into tears after Everything's Coming Up Roses and Rose's Turn--because we are hit with her desperation, disappointment, and fear.
She acts every line of her songs. She moves between belting and head voice effortlessly, which allows her a full palette of vocal colors and emotions. This is the most complete performance of the character I've ever seen.
