| Once upon a recent time, the Shuberts were going to build a new theatre on that site. If I recall correctly they determined it would cost around $150 million. (I assume they were going to build a 1500-2000 seat musical house). They decided not too, just too expensive. A reminder that the overarching Shubert Foundation which is tax exempt has current assets just under $700 million. They could afford to build a theatre, but chose not to. |
