It's called ''Tell Me It's You'' by Miranda. I haven't seen ''Mufasa'' yet, but I did see ''Moana 2'' and found its songs a snooze. Small world, but Miranda wrote the songs for ''Moana,'' which included the 2016 Oscar-nominated ''How Far I'll Go,'' but he didn't do ''Moana 2.'' ''Moana 2's'' tunes were by Emily Bear and Abigail Barlow, who won a Musical Theater Grammy for ''The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical.'' My taste in Best Original Song rarely matches with the Academy's music branch, which winnows down several dozen candidates to a shortlist of 15. The previous year, I thought the best movie songs came from Neil Hannon's delightful tunes for ''Wonka,'' but none of them even made the Oscar shortlist. ''A Hatful of Dreams'' perfectly sets up Willy's character and situation (with clever rhymes), and there's also a beautiful duet called ''For a Moment.'' What's more, they captured the spirit and whimsy of ''Wonka,'' alongside the original ''Pure Imagination'' by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley. |
