I kind of stand by the sets looking on the inexpensive end (I saw first preview)....when we had a set malfunction and was paused for 10 min and then we "saw" the said malfunctioned set, I was like....what went wrong on these flats? Did the hinge break? But...it is all supposed to be low budget, third rate theaters so maybe that's ok...but I digress.
Audra is creating a brand new Mama Rose and it is breathtakingly tragic and beautiful and sung in a way that only she knows how to sing it. Is she Ethel/Patti - no; is she Angela/Bernie P. - no; is she 1000% authentically Audra - absolutely! It is probably the best acted and the most human Rose I've ever seen and it will be discussed for years to come...and sometimes we want our dragons to be a little more human. |
