New York, NY – Kowalski , a captivating new play by Gregg Ostrin, directed by Colin Hanlon, that delves deep into the mind of one of America's most iconic playwrights, Tennessee Williams, as he meets Marlon Brando for the first time will get its New York Debut beginning January 12, 2025 in advance of its opening night on January 25, 2025, and will run through February 16, 2025 at The Duke on 42nd Street at New 42 Studios (229 West 42nd Street)

Kowalski is a gripping play that transports audiences to a pivotal moment in theatrical history, exploring the tangled relationships and creative tensions surrounding Tennessee Williams (Robin Lord Taylor) as he crafts his masterpiece, A Streetcar Named Desire. Set in a 1947 Provincetown beach house, the play unfolds over one sultry night, blending sharp wit and emotional depth to unravel the dynamics between Williams, the fiery director Margo Jones (Alison Cimmet), the tempestuous Pancho Rodriguez (Sebastian Treviño) , and a young, enigmatic Marlon Brando (Brandon Flynn ). Kowalski offers a behind-the-scenes look at the raw forces that birthed one of the 20th century's greatest works, weaving memory and myth into a haunting exploration of ambition, artistry, and desire.

The production stars Robin Lord Taylor ("Gotham," Netflix's "You") as Tennessee Williams and Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why) as Marlon Brando with Alison Cimmet (Broadway: Gary, Amelie) as Margo Jones, Ellie Ricker (Film: Y2K) as Jo and Sebastian Treviño (National Tour: On Your Feet) as Pancho Rodriguez.

The creative team includes costume design by Lisa Zinni, scenic design by David Gallo, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, sound design by Bill Toles, movement specialist Nancy Renee Braun, casting director Steven DeAngelis, and general management by Aaron Grant Theatrical. Kowalski is produced by Helm Capital/Jeffrey Sherman, Nathan Hughes, Karl E. Held, Willette & Manny Klausner and Faried Assad.

Bios

BRANDON FLYNN (Marlon Brando) was recently seen starring in the Apple series MANHUNT, written and showrun by Monica Beletsky. Carl Franklin executive produced and directed. Layne P. Eskridge, James Swanson, Michael Rotenberg, Richard Abate, Frank Smith, and Naia Cucukov also executive produced. He stars alongside Tobias Menzies. He also starred in the Hulu feature, Hellraiser directed by David Bruckner, and produced by Clive Barker, David S. Goyer, Keith Levine, and Marc Toberoff. He will next be seen in the New Line / HBO Max Horror Comedy feature, The Parenting, written by Kent Sublette and directed by Craig Johnson. Chris Bender and Jake Weiner produced. He stars alongside Brian Cox and Edie Falco. Brandon previously starred in four seasons of Brian Yorkey's "13 Reasons Why" for Netflix, and featured in the HBO series, "True Detective" across Mahershala Ali. He can also be seen starring in the romcom feature, Looks That Kill from writer, director, Kellen Moore. Jeremy Garelick, Mickey Liddell, Will Phelps, Austin Sepulveda, Pete Shilaimon, and Glen Trotiner produced. He stars across Julia Goldani Telles. Flynn studied at The Globe Theatre's Shakespeare Conservatory in London while enrolled in Rutgers University's prestigious Mason Gross School of the Arts. Shortly after graduating, he was cast as the lead in the off-Broadway production of the John Kander / Gregory Pierce musical, Kid Victory, which was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award for "Outstanding New Musical."

ROBIN LORD TAYLOR (Tennessee Williams) is a New York actor and graduate of Northwestern University's School of Speech. He is best known for his standout performance as Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin) for 5 seasons on FOX's hit series "Gotham." He previously recurred on AMC's "The Walking Dead" and "Kevin Can F*** Himself," Netflix's "You" and NBC's "Law and Order: Organized Crime." Films include Lionsgate's John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, Sony's Cold Comes The Night (with Bryan Cranston and Logan Marshall-Green), Return (dir. Liza Johnson, with Linda Cardellini), Universal's comedy Accepted (dir. Steve Pink with Justin Long and Jonah Hill), Would You Rather (with Brittany Snow and June Squibb), Another Earth (dir. Mike Cahill, with Brit Marling), and many others.

GREGG OSTRIN (Playwright) A native of Los Angeles, his most recent plays include A Very Streaming Christmas and The Spy Who Went Into Rehab (Pacific Resident Theatre, Venice, California), The Soul of Motown (Stage West Theater, Calgary), Truffles (Secret Door Theater, New York City) and Rank & File (Hudson Theater, Los Angeles). His play The Beverly Hills Hotel Peace Talks just had its premiere staged reading at The Coachella Valley Rep in Palm Springs, California for its Origins series. It will be opening there in May 2025. He dedicates this play to his former mentor, the late George Furth.

COLIN HANLON (Director) is an actor, writer, director, and producer living in New York City. He most recently directed ‘I Love You Because-a queer retelling in NYC. He also directed The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and co-directed It's Only a Play at George Street Playhouse. He's the co-producer & star of Submissions Only. He's also an adjunct professor at NYU New Studio, LIU, Stella Adler, and Cap 21. He teaches auditioning and self-tape technique at his private studio. Still a working actor as he's been on "Modern Family," "Difficult People," "The Sinner," "The Good Fight" and currently "Uncoupled" on Showtime. Broadway: Falsettos , Rent, Wicked (First National Tour) and In Transit . Off-Broadway: NYC premiere of Dot by Colman Domingo (Vineyard Theater, dir. Susan Stroman), A.R.
