Yes, it was a bad play, a bad choice for Christmas, a bad box office dud for ACT, and another bad experience for local audiences. Audiences are deserting ACT which has diminished so much in the past 8-9 years. The problems started well before the pandemic. It is a terrible loss for the theatre scene not to have a dynamic resident theatre company. Maybe they should just import the Theatreworks and Berkeley Rep productions into the Geary Theatre after their initial runs in their own venues. . What a glorious theatre company ACT was in the Bill Ball years and the Ed Hastings years, even the first years of Carey's work, especially her Stoppard productions. Very sad. |
