There is some LaChiusa I like, but Marie Christine is not one that I like much. Not that there isn't some good music, but I think not enough to cover over the dramatic problems. Don't ask me what they are. It's been too long. I'm pretty sure I posted details here at the time of the Beaumont production, or maybe not long after when it came up here and it was still fresh in my memory.
Anyway, Joy Woods and Joaquina Kalukango both have exceptional voices, but I'm not sure either of them would be able to handle it very well vocally. Of course, I might be wrong. (Which is why I wrote "I'm not sure" rather than "neither of them could sing it well.") |
