I recall hearing that the first time that Farer went on for Burnett was so early in the run that she didn't even have a costume yet. The designer or someone on the wardrobe crew, apparently, took Farer to Macy's or Bloomingdale's earlier in the day to find something for her to wear that night. It was also early enough in the run that Burnett's star alternate, Kathie Lee Gifford, was not yet rehearsed in the role.
