In interpersonal communication theory, we sometimes call what she did "gunnysacking"--so much negative stuff gets put in the "sack" over the years that the sack eventuall tears open and all manner of things come out. While usually viewed as less than ideal, it is also a very human thing. It may be that his ignorant comments on Greel's illness and death was the stuff in the sack that split it open and everything else came tumbling out.
Fuck the issues around her language--the pearl-clutching about that strikes me as disingenuous and a diversion. If Levi is going to utter offensive content (and it is--he has no busines speculating publicly about the medical causes of a death he really knows nothing about), then I could don't give a shit about what language Benanti uses to address. Maybe there's a place for Levi and Osnes in RFK Jr's office (assuming he gets confirmed, which strikes me as far from a done deal). |
