I love Maggie Smith's work, and though even though she was Oscar-nominated for "Travels With My Aunt", when I saw it, something seemed "off" about her performance and not quite believable. Some of George Cukor's later directorial efforts were similarly not that effective either. TCM could show her as a kooky British young Goldie Hawn type in the wonderful "Hot Millions" or as "The Thin Man" Nora Charles paired with David Niven in the very funny "Murder By Death", marred only by a rather ridiculous murderer reveal. Lots of great Smith performances to choose from. |
