Worth pointing out that this isn't by the Standard's regular theatre critic (wonder why?) in fact as far as I can see this is this writer's debut theatre review. Also possibly worth pointing out that the Standard's owner Evgeny Lebedev is close friends with Elton John and David Furnish, in fact he's godfather to their eldest son.

Could that be why there's another article in the Standard today, this one by London talent agency Chair Jonathan Shalit about the gala performance and party? Shalit describes the show as "a dazzling reinvention of the beloved 2006 film ....London’s latest theatrical sensation offers a fresh, electrifying spin on the story", "the production gleams with such brilliance that it can only described as opulent masterpiece" and "a high-octane spectacle, a thrilling two-and-a-half-hour extravaganza of singing, dancing, and jaw-dropping fashion".

Who needs independent theatre criticism when you can get quotes like these.
