My guess is word of mouth, and more specifically the big spoiler. I went in not knowing, and I was absolutely squirming in my seat. It takes a lot to want to go there, and once they do it's hard to think about any of the other aspects of the story (for me).

I went from not having this show on my radar at all, to realizing the people involved and how much I love their work, to seeing it was a Times critics pick (although I did not read any reviews), to it being a must see (I won the digital lottery last weekend), to not being able to recommend it after how uncomfortable I felt watching it. I wonder if others came to that conclusion as well.
