I'll sidestep ad hominem address, but it baffles me when theater devotees come to these boards to scold those who offer critique, particularly when subjective takes are developed citing specific issues that were experience determinative. Previews? To me, the best time; work of all kinds is in progress. Attendees of early performances point out where adjustments seem needed. Why remains silent until a show is frozen? Posters are not paid critics; comments have no box office impact. This pops up almost daily on the theater pages of FB, umbrage taken over "negativity."

As an old timer 'round these parts, about two decades here and over yonder at BWW, I've encountered these admonitions over the years. I do wonder if some folks believe these boards are designed solely for fans to gather, or just annotate with sourced theater history. I salute the members who argue passionately, sometimes aggressively disagreeing. Over time, I'm become more not less appreciative of the intellectual debate that ensues - some very smart and informed folks deconstruct problems with almost academic precision - than the thumbs up/thumbs down posters. In stating same, I'm owning my preference.
