The Goodman Theatre in Chicago has done something similar over the years with shows like Floyd Collins; Play On!; I Am My Own Wife; A View from the Bridge (van Hove's); and perhaps others that featured cast members from the New York productions.

Timeline Theatre's recent production of The Lehman Brothers, which sold tickets through Broadway in Chicago and was staged at the Broadway Playhouse -- a touring house, is another show that seems to blur the line between a local production and a tour.

In recent years musicals like Pretty Women; Beetlejuice; Mrs. Doubtfire; and possibly one or two others have spawned touring productions that have announcement recoupment, even though the Broadway staging did not. However, the recent revival of Into the Woods (based on what I have read) recouped its costs because of its tour -- if I am mistaken about that, someone please correct me.

I am aware that many (perhaps most) on this board don't care about whether or not shows recoup, but for the future sustainability of the entire system I think it is important to understand which shows are profitable and which are not.
