| KEN URBAN'S DANGER AND OPPORTUNITY TO PREMIERE AT NEW DOWNTOWN VENUE, EAST VILLAGE BASEMENT, IN MARCH 2025 Jack Serio Set To Direct Danger and Opportunity, a new play by award-winning playwright Ken Urban, will premiere in March 2025 at a new downtown venue, East Village Basement, located at 321 East 9th Street in Manhattan. Directed by Jack Serio, Danger and Opportunity is produced by Jacob Stuckelman, Matt Krauss, Andrew Patino, and Kyle Rogers. Christian and Edwin are a married gay couple in a rut when Margaret – Christian's ex-girlfriend from Catholic high school – gets in touch after twenty years. At Edwin's urging, Christian invites her over for drinks. The trio embarks on an unexpected journey together, testing the limits of what defines a contemporary relationship. Danger and Opportunity marks a busy 2024-2025 season for both Ken Urban and Jack Serio. The Off-Broadway premiere of Urban's A Guide for the Homesick is set to begin performances December 6 at DR2 Theatre for a limited engagement through February 2, 2025. Meanwhile, Serio will direct Academy Award-winner Brendan Fraser in the world premiere of Samuel D. Hunter's Grangeville, February 4 – March 16, 2025, at Signature Theatre. Visit www.eastvillagebasement.com to learn more. About the Artists Ken Urban (playwright) is a playwright, screenwriter and musician. His plays have been produced by Huntington Theatre Company, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Trafalgar Studios in the West End, Studio Theatre, 59E59 Theatres, London's Theatre503, First Floor Theater, and The Public Theatre/Summer Play Festival. He is a four-time recipient of the prestigious MacDowell Fellowship and his audio play Vapor Trail was selected for the 2022 Tribeca Festival's Audio Storytelling series then released as part of Playwrights Horizons' Sound Stage. Awards include Venturous Theater Fund Finishing Commission, EST/Alfred P. Sloan Science & Technology Project Commission, Weissberger Playwriting Award, New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, Independent Reviewers of New England's Award for Best New Script, Headlands Artist Residency, Millay Arts Residency, Dramatist Guild Fellowship, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts Fellowship. He was recently awarded the 2024 Blue Ink Playwriting Award by Chicago's American Blues Theater and was one of three winners of the 2023 A is For Playwriting Contest for plays about reproductive justice. He is a resident playwright at New Dramatists and an affiliated writer at the Playwrights' Center. Ken wrote the screenplay for the feature-film adaptation of The Happy Sad, directed by Rodney Evans. His plays are published by Dramatists Play Service/Broadway Licensing. He leads the band Occurrence and their latest album Real Friend will be released in February 2025. His first TV pilot The Art of Listening was optioned by ITV and Madison Wells Media. He is currently writing a feature film. Ken is the Senior Lecturer of Theater Arts and Director of Dramatic Writing at MIT. He lives in Washington Heights with his partner Johnny. He recently directed the critically acclaimed production of Uncle Vanya staged in a Flatiron loft. The production earned 3 Drama Desk nominations including Best Revival and for it, he was named a "New King of Culture" in Town & Country Magazine. More recently, he directed the U.S. premiere of The Animal Kingdom at The Connelly Theater Upstairs and the return engagement of On Set With Theda Bara at The Brick. He also directed the celebrated U.S. premiere of This Beautiful Future at The Cherry Lane Theater, a NY Times Critic's Pick. This winter he will direct Academy Award-winner Brendan Fraser in the world premiere of Samuel D. Hunter's Grangeville at Signature Theatre. His work has been seen at Playwrights Horizons, Ars Nova, Clubbed Thumb, 59e59, Cherry Lane, Theaterlab, The Brick, Theater for the New City, and The Pearl Theater Company.
