Same. Saw it in tryouts in Chicago in May, I actually thought the songs were at least average, and the acting very good. At that time, I thought "Death Becomes Her" (the musical), started out as a B-, trudging through story elements from the past, then a B grade show, in the middle of act one. And then, as everything swung slowly into the present, it roused itself (if not the audience) into a B+ grade show. That said, the two guys right behind me shrieked with laughter throughout. And in Chicago (the city) Jennifer Simard gave me (a critic) the evil eye for about five long seconds, after intermission, live on stage, from near center-stage. Seeing the show in tryouts was a birthday treat to myself. But a stage manager must have alerted her to me in the second row orch. (all the way audience left), after I'd posted a photo of myself on FB (where I describe myself as a TalkinBroadway critic) in the lobby before the show, tagged with the Cadillac Theatre location. I probably stood out for wearing a jacket and tie! My little brush with stardom! She was great, though. Richard St. Louis |
