One thing I’ve always found confusing about this is that everyone really seems to be basing their opinions on the reporting of… The NY Post. A notoriously terrible Murdoch-owned tabloid that shouldn’t be trusted with a weather forecast, let alone the news. As has been mentioned, the original requirement for the Crazy For You concert that precipitated this was that performers needed a negative test. Then once the vaccine became available, the Guild Hall revised its standard. When the requirement changed, Osnes withdrew. She wasn’t comfortable with the vaccine, To be fair, there was a lot of disinformation being pumped out there by conservative media and political opportunists. And there were a lot of people who were only being told it was dangerous and untested. Of course, that wasn’t true! But making the mistake of trusting the wrong sources for your news is a pretty common problem, as the last election proved. We may all think it should have been easy to recognize that information was false and politically driven, but not everybody could. The thing that everyone seems to overlook is that the NY Post pushed a disputed narrative painting her in the worst possible light. They claimed she was fired. And they claimed she was evasive and misled the producers (an assertion they later removed from the online version of the article, which is pretty telling.) The details and the timeline really make the Post story look not only wrong, but malicious. This is why she is suing the paper, and if she can find a court that still functions, she has a decent chance of winning. Everyone is entitled to dislike a performer because of their politics. I’m certainly not planning on seeing any more Zachary Levi movies (if there ever are any…) But I really don’t think Osnes belongs on the same ice floe. Perhaps the court case will somewhat vindicate her and she’ll be welcomed back someday. I don’t know how likely that is, but I don’t think this incident was anyone’s proudest moment… |
