I've seen every Broadway Rose starting with Angela--and I've loved them ALL, for completely different reasons. [I still love Ethel's version the best--from the live sound recording of her production. Sooo funny; and Steve brilliantly wrote the lyrics particularly for Ethel's vernacular.]
But about Bernadette--saw a brilliant live performance and she stood right next to my aisle seat to say her first mean, exasperated "Sing out, Louise!" After reading these comments I found on YouTube this video that I didn't know of--of her doing the complete ROSE'S TURN for the recording session of the cast album; what a terrific surprise! It's not a time machine--but it might give you an insight into (as did her Tony performance) what she could actually DO with Rose...
