I don't disagree with what you say, but I don't really see it as a counter to my point. "Lots" (my word) is a bad word. Let's say 1500 people a night can buy seats for $6. SOMEONE bought those tickets. Night after night after night for years. The fact that many other people could not buy tickets does not change this. Having the ticket prices be what they are today does not allow more people to see the show, or make the show more accessible (although it does put more money in the show's pot instead of scalpers which I already applauded). Again I am just going back to the OP's post, which seemed to suggest we shouldn't complain about today's prices because scalpers were getting astronomical amounts for South Pacific in 1949. But SOME segment of the popultion WAS getting tickets for $6. And today's prices have not tracked with inflation. I am not complaining about premium pricing, which essentially takes the place of scalper pricing. I am sad about the normal, basic top ticket price. | |
