To speak of "Netflix movies," as if they are all the same, is a bit misleading. I believe there's a fairly big difference between the movies Netflix has produced from the jump, and those it acquired after they played festivals. This is one of the latter - this movie existed long before Netflix ever got involved, and I doubt the creators would have signed a deal with Netflix that took it out of awards consideration.
Indeed, Emilia Pérez is almost a lock for a Best Picture nomination at this point, not to mention likely noms for the director and two performers (I highly doubt Selena Gomez though - the category is way too stacked). I also wouldn't be surprised if it got a nom for Adapted Screenplay, and perhaps even Original Song (we'll have a better sense of the latter when the shortlists are announced next month). |
