| Monster is probably the first word that comes to my mind when I think of Rose. Of course the character is many things, but to deny that she is a monster who could "eat" her own children also seems simplistic. I was very much triggered when I saw Gypsy for the first time (with Daly), feeling like I had witnessed my own mother on stage. And yes, I would describe my own mother as a monster, who as she's aged has become more tolerable and somewhat lovable, just like Rose. |
