I checked a series of Wednesday matinees in April, and discovered that a preponderance of the seats are - wait for it - $691 each. Side seats are in the $300-$400+ range, and the "cheap seats" are $199. I guess there are a handful of obstructed tickets for $99. All that the traffic will allow, sure, I get it. But if star salaries dictate $1400 for two seats, it basically means stars will play to the ultimate elite audience. Having paid fairly regular prices to see Elizabeth Taylor, Glenda Jackson, Judy Dench, Jane Fonda, Maggie Smith, Mary Tyler Moore - just off the top of my head - I'm startled that stars now generate such event status. Even Josh Groban could be seen for considerably less. But then, a global recording phenom isn't a movie star. | |
