I have yet to understand how some artistic leaders are continually given chances despite a poor track record. Anyone surprised with Goold's uneven tone and bland staging clearly didn't see his AMERICAN PSYCHO (the material is significantly better than that Broadway production would lead you to believe). He's a fine play director (I enjoyed his PATRIOTS) but some people can't direct musicals. Did anyone see his SPRING AWAKENING in London? Would be curious. It got raves there, but that doesn't mean anything obviously.
