Wonderful score indeed. The movie recreates the superb and very funny Michael Kidd choreography and staging for the most part, though it was filmed in a bigger sound stage than would fit on a Broadway stage. Most of the cast, except for Edie Adams is used with Leslie Parish in for her, and Stella Stevens is lots of fun in her role. Bille Hayes I think was originally wanted for original cast and eventually replaced Charlotte Rae on Broadway as Mammy Yokum. It's a satire, so don't know why it might not be revivable, except maybe some of those who get off on being offended by practically everything might object, even when it's being given a send up. |
