“Where’s Charley?” probably qualifies. It ran for 792 performances, plus an additional 48 during a return engagement four months after closing.
It may be less well remembered than contemporaneous hits, because it didn’t receive an original Broadway cast recording. Apparently that was due to the unfortunate timing of a musicians’ union strike. Our loss — but at least the London cast recording is pleasant.
IBDB reminded me that the show received a brief revival in the 70s at Circle in the Square, starring Raul Julia. Anyone see that? |
